National Road Construction Projects 2019
Four significant construction contracts were on site in Donegal in 2019.
N56 Coolboy to Kilmacrennan Realignment
This scheme was constructed by BAM Civils
and was completed in May 2019, more than
3 months ahead of program. The Scheme
was officially opened on 07th October 2019.
In addition to the new, improved and safer
road, part of the Letterkenny Regional Water Improvement Scheme was incorporated into
the scheme. The project provides improved road and active travel services with a combined cycle/ pedestrian facility.
The cycleway was extended south from Coolboy to provide connectivity with the National School at Illistrin. A further extension to connect this cycleway with the Letterkenny urban area is planned.
N56 Mountcharles to Drumbeigh
This scheme constructed by Wills Bros Ltd., was substantially completed in early August 2019. This was significantly ahead of programme. This scheme has been favourably welcomed
by the public, providing a vastly improved and safer road. This section of the N56 serves as the primary access to Killybegs Harbour and to Sliabh Liag on the Wild Atlantic Way.
