COMPETITION FOR BEST KEPT COUNCIL HOUSING SCHEMES 2024

Donegal County Council proposes to hold a further competition this year for the Best Kept Council Housing Schemes.  It is hoped that many more entries will be received on this occasion.

The competition will be run on a Municipal District basis and a substantial prize fund is available which will be awarded in the following categories according to merit:

  1. Schemes of 20 houses or less,
  2. Schemes of  between 21 and 50 houses,
  3. Schemes of 51 houses or more.

In order to qualify, at least 20% of the total number of dwellings in an estate must be in the ownership of the Council (minimum of 2 dwellings apply).

Consolation prizes will also be awarded in meritorious cases.

The Council reserves the right to re-allocate prize money should insufficient entries be received for any category. The prize money must be spent for a community purpose approved by the Council. Residents of housing schemes should consult together, and if interested, form a Residents’ Committee and submit an entry form signed on their behalf by two tenants of the Scheme.

The adjudication of entries will take place during the July period. Marks will be awarded under the following headings:

  1. Effort involved.
  2. Absence of litter.
  3. Planting trees, shrubs, flowers and gardens.
