Recycling Centres

Compost Giveaway Events:

To encourage the use of the food waste bin Donegal County Council in partnership with Bryson Recycling and Envirogrind Ltd are hosting free Compost Giveaway events at each of the Council’s 6 Recycling Centres during National Food Waste Recycling Week. This is a perfect example of the Circular Economy at work.

 

When & Where:

 

Tuesday 6th June       

10am – 12pm  Letterkenny Recycling Centre

2pm – 4pm Dungloe Recycling Centre

 

Wednesday 7th June  

10am – 12pm Carndonagh Recycling Centre

2pm – 4pm Milford Recycling Centre

 

Thursday 8th June     

10.30am – 12.30pm Laghey Recycling Centre

2pm – 4pm  Stranorlar Recycling Centre

 

Householders are asked to bring their own way of collecting the loose compost either using bags or containers while stocks last.  Staff will be on site to assist and give advice on food waste recycling and a limited number of Food Waste Recycling Starter Packs will be available to householders.  Starter packs include a Food Waste caddy, a roll of compostable liners and information on what food waste can be recycled.

 

The compost is being provided by Envirogrind Ltd who produce this compost from food and garden waste here in Donegal.

 

 

 

There are six Recycling Centres ‌in Donegal located at Carndonagh, Letterkenny, Milford, Dungloe, Stranorlar and Laghey. 

 

These centres have an extensive free area and also have a charged recycling area. Waste items such as glass, cans, textiles, batteries and electrical goods are all accepted free of charge.

 

There is a range of charges from €1 to €8 for recycling paper, rigid plastic, soft plastic, cardboard, cartons and waste oils. 

 

**Payments can now be made by card at each of the 6 Recycling Centres.**

Soft Plastics:

  • Soft Plastics are now be accepted at all 6 sites.
  • Soft Plastics should be separated at home from rigid plastics and all plastics should be clean, dry and loose.
  • Soft Plastics include; plastic bags, bread bags, fruit & vegetable bags, crisp bags, biscuit & sweet wrappers, plastic food pouches, parcel packaging etc.
  • There will be a separate area at each site to deposit soft plastic.

 

Waste Paint:

Waste Paint is now accepted at the Recycling Centres, all year round. There will be a fee of €1 per 5 litre tin of paint for this service.
