Public Lighting
During 2019, the public lighting maintenance contractor continued with the LED upgrades across the county resulting in the overall retrofit of 20% of the 18,000 public lights with LEDs.
TII approved a number of projects in 2019 resulting in the upgrade of non LED lights on the national network in Donegal to LED solutions.
Piers & Harbours
A 2019 DAFM grant of €172,500 with an additional €57,500 Council match funding was spent on the refurbishment of the County’s piers and harbours in 2019. This was in addition to the Own Resources funding allocated to Piers & Harbours maintenance and repair works.
Municipal District Roads
Roads Areas Division
The total public road network in County Donegal is 6,446 km long and over the course of 2019 approximately €52m was spent by the Roads Areas Division in maintaining and improving this network. This funding came from a variety of sources and allowed for a wide range of work to be completed, including;
General Maintenance
Council staff undertake regular general maintenance on the public road network. This work typically includes maintenance of drainage systems, surface repairs, verge maintenance, sign maintenance and street cleaning. The Council’s road maintenance staff are also frequently called upon to assist the Fire Service and An Garda Síochána in dealing with road traffic accidents and extreme weather events and these activities are also funded through general maintenance.
