                                 Civil Defence | Providing accessible, efficient & good value services & supports
Donegal Civil Defence, a volunteer based organisation, continues to support the Primary Response Agencies while also assisting where feasible, the local communities in Non- Emergency activities.
The operational service was provided by 99 volunteers, (40 female, 59 male) and was managed by the Civil Defence Officer.
Training continues to be delivered weekly through 4 centres, county wide;
· Civil Defence Headquarters, Stranorlar.
· Carndonagh Auxillary Fire Station
· Donegal Town Fire Station
· Hay Hall, Carrigart
Training
To maintain operational readiness Civil Defence continued to develop and roll out its training programmes in a variety of areas.
· Cardiac First Responder and Defibrillator, First Aid Responder and Emergency First Responder training.
· Map Reading Course.
· People Moving Training.
· Life Jacket Competency User Course.
· Severe Weather Off Road Driver Winching Training.
· Radiation Monitoring Training, in conjunction with the Radiological Protection Institute of Ireland.
· Delivering Safe use of Oxygen and Entonox training to EFR’s and EMT’s.
· Weekly Technician Line Rescue training.
· Manual Handling Course.
· Drone familiarisation and craft testing.
· Communications Network Operator Training.
· Auxiliary Fire fighting Training, inclusive of wild land fire fighting and flood response.
Major Emergency Response
In January 2019, assistance was provided to the National Ambulance Service to provide 4x4 Ambulance cover during periods of heavy snowfall in the Inishowen Peninsula, Milford and Glenties areas.
Civil Defence Auxiliary Fire Service assisted Donegal Fire Service crews to bring under control the gorse fires which ripped through the Rosses area of West Donegal on Friday 19th April by providing 2 crews and 1 Fire Appliance .
Donegal Civil Defence was activated at 7am on the 4th October 2019 by Assistant Chief Fire Officer to assist the Local Fire Service with the management of flooding in Donegal Town.
