Support and develop our organisational capacity to achieve our objectives
Donegal County Council’s Information Technology infrastructure serves 107 locations countywide and is one of the largest Local Authority networks in Ireland.
The infrastructure comprises of:
· 96 Servers
· 1,338 Desktop & Notebook computers
· 380 Printers/Scanners/Plotters
· 29 Print Management Multi-Function
Devices
· 17 PABX Telephone Systems
· 910 Telephone Handsets
· 287 Tablets
In addition to this ICT infrastructure, a wide range of Council business support systems are managed on a daily basis.
The Council’s Corporate Plan 2015-2019 provided a valuable local context for Information Systems Operational Planning which is geared to supporting its strategic objectives and priorities. New system implementations in 2019 included an electronic system for managing Council meetings, a tourism website for the County, a Council vehicle inspection app and a library digitisation project.
Donegal Library Digitisation Project
Donegal Library Service is developing Digital Learning Centres in each of their 13 branch libraries. The goal is to help people of all ages and abilities learn how to use and develop their skills using technology. These libraries will be running a series of classes using the new equipment and the equipment will also be available for use to any regular users of the library.
This new equipment included iPads, Tablets, iMacs and large interactive learning screens. The library has also installed two tovertavel tables which are primarily used to create
a stimulating environment for people with dementia to move more and interact socially.
A 3D printer has been installed in the Central Library. This is used to enable customers
to learn about 3D printing by showing them working demonstrations.
Tourism Site and Repository
GovisitDonegal.com was launched in 2019 to promote County Donegal as a major tourism destination. The main content on this website is provided via a central tourism repository.
The tourism repository stores information related to tourism providers in County Donegal grouped under major categories such as accommodation, places to eat, activities, attractions and events. After a tourism provider is verified, they get access to an account where they can upload information relating to the product they offer.
eCouncil
The new Council term in 2019 saw the move to paperless meetings for Plenary Council and Municipal District meetings. This was facilitated with the introduction of SharePoint online for the elected Members and meeting administration teams where all meeting documentation is stored.
The Elected Members were provided with HP Elitebook devices to access documentation prior to and during the meetings. Access to questions and motions is also streamlined and readily available during the meetings. The press has been facilitated through a separate SharePoint site where meeting documentation is copied on day of meetings.
