In 2019 Civil Defence provided medical cover to 34 community events county wide. The service was provided by 46 First Aid Responders who provided 1415 volunteer man hours to their community in support of a spectrum of events that included, Community Festivals, Sporting Events, Darkness into Light and the Bluestack Challenge.
28th Infantry Battalion Military Tattoo
On National Services Day, which is an official day to recognise and thank all of Ireland’s frontline, statutory and voluntary services, Donegal Civil Defence provided medical cover to the 28th Infantry Battalion Military Tattoo in Donegal Town.
Recognition of Volunteer Service
On 20th September 1969, 1st Officer, James Dolan, Stranorlar joined Civil Defence. Since then, James has given 50 years continued volunteer service to Donegal Civil Defence. His valuable contribution to Civil Defence was acknowledged by Mr. Garry Martin, Director of Services at the Civil Defence End of Year Presentation night in December.
Additional Vehicle
The Department of Defence made an application for funding from the Dormant Accounts Fund in 2018. This was approved in July 2018 and €500,000 was allocated
to the Civil Defence budget in 2019. The monies awarded were to help improve Civil Defence’s vehicle capability nationwide. Donegal Civil Defence was extremely grateful to have been allocated a Ford Ranger
vehicle to compliment their existing fleet. This allocation was very welcome news
and a testament to the work and services being provided by Civil Defence to the wider Donegal Community, and to the volunteers in
the service, who give of their time voluntarily to ensure that the community continues to be served in times of need.
