                                Major Emergency Management
Donegal County Council continues to participate with its partner Principal Response Agencies (PRAs), and with other statutory and voluntary agencies, in planning and training activities organised by the North West Regional Working Group for Major Emergency Management.
New Flood Emergency Response Plan
The adopted Flood Emergency Response Plan sets out the roles and responsibilities of the three Principal Response Agencies and the supporting agencies of the Defence Forces, the Civil Defence, the Irish Coast Guard, the Office of Public Works, Irish Water, ESB and the Department of Social Protection.
Controller of Operations Training
A one day inter agency course to up skill participants for the role of Controller of Operations was organised by Donegal County Council
Training
21 training courses organised by the Fire Service or sourced from external providers including the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management who provide fire services courses at national level.
Training courses are provided for Fire Service personnel having regard to their roles and functions within the service. Some courses are cyclic in nature and courses provided vary in duration from one day to 15 days.
Each retained brigade has two three hour drills each month. The drills, which are both lecture room and activity based, cover a spectrum of training activities which, in conjunction with other training, provides the necessary skill sets required to deliver statutory operational functions.
New Appliance
On the 24th July 2019 Councillor Nicholas Crossan, Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, officially handed over the new Scania fire appliance to Station Officer
Owen Gillespie, Gweedore Fire Brigade, who accepted the keys on behalf of the brigade. The appliance, which cost €450,000, was built by Sídheán Teo, Spiddal, County Galway and was fully funded by the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government.
