Recruitment
A total of 43 competitions were held in 2019 to fill vacancies across a range of areas. The competitions included a range of opportunities including new temporary posts for specified projects and areas of activity supported by external funding, seasonal work and to fill vacant posts in the Council’s management and staffing structure that arose during the year.
Training and Development
The Council’s Training Department in partnership with the Stranorlar Regional Training Centre (pictured below) delivered a range of courses for staff in 2019 with a particular emphasis on Health and Safety, Technical skills, Health and Wellbeing and IT Skills.
The Council’s Staff Education Scheme continues to provide support to staff who wish to undertake further education. A number of staff are currently availing of this scheme in courses such as Emergency Services, Construction, Libraries and Information Management, and Engineering.
The Stranorlar Regional Training Centre (SRTC) saw a further increase in the number of persons trained in 2019 when compared with 2018. The SRTC has LASNTG (Local Authority Services National Training Group), City & Guilds and ITSSAR ditto accreditations. Training has been provided to staff across a range of areas, including Health & Safety, Plant and Machinery, and specialised roads, water and wastewater courses. A number of new and reviewed courses were rolled out
and delivered during 2019 in collaboration with IT Carlow and IT Sligo. The QQI Fire fighting skills accredited programme was delivered to the new recruits of the Donegal Fire Service in 2019.
