                                 Ceol le Cheile win National Age Recognition Award 2019
Social Inclusion / Community Development
The Council continued to support various social inclusion initiatives in 2019 including social inclusion week, Pride of Place and the coordination of a wide range of various social inclusion projects right across the county.
The Social Inclusion Unit ran a hugely successful 2019 project ‘Ceol le Cheile’, an intergenerational choir made up of 80 older people, children and young people with the aim
of promoting social inclusion and developing stronger intergenerational relationships. The intergenerational output was increased with the delivery of the YOURS project (Young and Old, Understanding, Respecting and Sharing).
Other Activities
Pan Celtic Festival / Ulster Dancing Championships
The 48th International Pan Celtic Festival was held in Letterkenny from the 23rd-28th April 2019 bringing significant numbers of visitors to the town to enjoy the colourful and vibrant celebration of music, song, dance, pageantry and languages of the six Celtic nations.
The 2019 Ulster Dancing Championships, supported by Donegal County Council, took place in Letterkenny from the 1st-3rd November 2019 attracting in the region of 10,000 visitors.
Irish Office
The wide range of activities carried out by the Council’s Irish Office (Rannóg na Gaelige) continued in 2019. This included preparing, co-ordinating and implementing a county-wide Irish Language Plan, Lionra Leitir Ceanainn, the Gaeltacht Scholarship Scheme, Seachtain na Gaelige, Irish language courses for staff and members and An Cumann Gaelach.
Capital Projects
Letterkenny Gateway
Work has continued on the development of the Social Enterprise Centre, part funded under the Designated Urban Centres Grant Scheme (2014-2020) for the Letterkenny Gateway. The project progressed through planning in 2019.
