What is the Mortgage Allowance Scheme?

Mortgage Allowance assists tenants and tenant purchasers of Council dwellings who wish to return their dwelling to the Council and purchase or build a private dwelling for their own occupation.

The scheme is also available to certain tenants of houses provided by AHBs/voluntary housing bodies under the Rental Subsidy Scheme.

The assistance is by way of an allowance that reduces your mortgage repayments over the first five years of the mortgage.  The allowance is paid by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage directly to the lending agency from which you are getting your mortgage.

Details of the scheme, including eligibility rules and current rates, are available at -
