Babbling Babies launch as part of the Right to Read Programme
Library Service
There were almost 380,000 visits to Donegal Libraries, and almost 308,000 items borrowed, during 2019.
Fines were abolished from 1st of January.
The Library Service received grant assistance from the Dormant Accounts Fund (through the Department of Rural and Community Development) for four projects to support measures set out in Our Public Libraries 2022:
1) Animated Videos promoting online resources
2) Autism Spectrum Disorder Friendly Programme
3) Inclusion Programme for Visually Impaired users
4) Multi-lingual Library Welcome Pack
The Healthy Ireland at your Library programme hosted 23 physical and mental health events across the county. Successful
Right to Read family literacy programmes including Spring into Storytime, Summer Stars, and Family Time at your Library engaged with 2,950 children and parents.
The Wainfest Children’s Arts and Book Festival, held in October, programmed over 150 events countywide and drew an audience of 11,400 people.
The innovative Tovertafel was launched in Central Library, in May. The Tovertafel, or Magic Table, helps stimulate people with dementia.
