26/3/2018 - Inishowen leading the way in Big Donegal Clean Up

Big Donegal Clean Up

Promoting the Big Clean Up in Inishowen are Pearse McCrory, Litter Warden, John Farren, Ballyliffin Golf Club, Cathaoirleach Cllr. Gerry McMonagle and Michael McGarvey, Donegal County Council with members of the Ballyliffin and Clonmany Tidy Towns Committees.

Communities across Inishowen are being invited to come out in force on Saturday 7th April to take part in the peninsula’s Big Clean Up.

The big clean up will take place from 10am until 1pm and groups and businesses from all over the peninsula are being asked to take part.

“This initiative has been taking place for a number of years now” says Pearse McCrory, Inishowen Litter Warden with Donegal County Council who is organising this campaign along with the elected members of the Inishowen Municipal District.

“We are asking everyone to make an extra effort this year as it is a special year with the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open coming to Ballyliffin in July and we really want to have the peninsula looking its best as we are expecting visitors and TV crews from around the world to descend on Inishowen during the Open.  Inishowen is also proving to be a popular destination with visitors who want to come along and see where the latest Star Wars movie was filmed and of course to experience our stunning scenery along the Wild Atlantic Way.”

Donegal County Council will provide bags, litter pickers and high vis vests and will arrange for the collection of all the rubbish once it is bagged.  Any group or businesses looking to take part should contact Martin McGough in Donegal County Council on 074 91 53900 or call the Councils Litter Warden Pearse McCrory at 087 968 9442.

Unfortunately for health and safety reasons children under 14 are being asked not to participate on clean ups along public roads.
