ScienceWeek

Exploring the fascinating world of science during Science Week in Donegal libraries.

Next week is Science Week and libraries across Donegal are hosting events to celebrate science and to test our scientific skills.

Science Week is taking place from 11 to 18 November and promises to be a very busy week for libraries in Donegal, with Lego Competitions in Buncrana, Carndonagh, Bundoran, Na Rosa and Donegal Town libraries as well as Dr. Trish Murphy Workshops in Gaoth Dobhair, Na Rosa, Carndonagh, and Raphoe libraries.

Living Science and Biodiversity workshops will take place in Ballyshannon, Letterkenny, Donegal Town and Twin Towns libraries, and there will be a Family Science event with Abbots Ireland Ltd in Bundoran.

This year Donegal libraries will also host Healthy Ireland events which include Mini Me Yoga sessions in the three Inishowen libraries and workshops with Paula Mee who is the consultant dietician on TV3’s Doctor in the House and was the dietician on the RTÉ’s Health Squad.

Kevin McCaul Executive Librarian with Donegal County Council says “we are delighted that Healthy Ireland is involved in Science Week this year and this is all about bringing the fascinating world of science to schools, home educators and families in Donegal.  Our libraries offer a wide range of science based e-magazines online to library members including New Scientist, Popular Science, Science Illustrated and Astronomy to name but a few”.

Science Week is part of Science Foundation Ireland’s work to promote and celebrate the fascinating world of science. The aim is to encourage school children to engage with science in a fun and interactive way and promote awareness and understanding of the importance and relevance of STEM to everyday life.
