13/10/2014 - Buncrana Urban District/Town Council: A Short History to be launched this week

On Wednesday this week (15th October), An Leas Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Cllr. Nicholas Crossan will launch a new illustrated booklet produced by Donegal County Councils Archive Service which tells the story of Buncrana Urban District Council/ Town Council and its work in the development of the town of Buncrana over one hundred years.


This booklet is entitled Buncrana Town Council - A Short History.


In his foreword in the booklet, former Mayor of Buncrana Peter McLaughlin states that “the Buncrana Urban District/Town Council Archives collection, listed and maintained by Donegal County Archives, is one of the most important of such collections in the country.  It is of local and national historical significance, and it is vital that the collection should be preserved and made accessible to the public, present and future generations”.


He added “This publication summarises the early history of the Council, showcases some of the most historically interesting documents from the Archives Collection, and gives the reader some idea of the huge variety and extent of the work of Buncrana Council members and staff for the benefit of Buncrana over more than a century”.
