The Balor Arts Centre in Ballybofey has signed up to a new innovative scheme that will see it providing community toilet facilities in the Twin Towns under Donegal County Councils new Community Toilet Scheme.

The Balor Arts Centre is the first business to sign up to this new scheme which is about ensuring that clean, safe and easily accessible toilets are available to the public at no cost and in turn participating businesses are paid an annual fee by Donegal County Council based on the facilities they have available.

Speaking following the signing Cathaoirleach of Stranorlar MD Cllr. Patrick McGowan said “I am delighted to see the Balor Arts Centre sign up to this scheme.  The Balor is located in a key strategic location right in the centre of Ballybofey and is an integral part of the community of the Twin Towns.  This scheme is about looking at innovative ways of working with businesses to provide much needed toilet facilities for public use and I am confident that other businesses, community organisations and premises in the Twin Towns will follow in the footsteps of the Balor and sign up to the scheme”.

This scheme is being piloted by Donegal County Council in the Ballybofey/Stranorlar Twin Towns area and the aim is to increase the number of toilet facilities available to members of the public by working in partnership with local businesses across the county.

Michael McGarvey Director of Water and Environment with Donegal County Council said that he was delighted to see the scheme being launched with the Balor Arts Centre on board and confirmed that other local businesses are in discussion with the Council.

Anyone interested in participating in the initiative should contact Donegal County Council on 074 91 53900 or email [email protected].
