Ballybofey & Stranorlar Flood Mitigation

Deadline: 9th August 2021

Donegal County Council propose to carry out flood mitigation measures downstream of the main Ballybofey/Stranorlar Bridge along the N15 route in Co. Donegal. The proposal includes the construction of two new storm manholes on the existing 900mm storm lines at the bottom of the flood embankments behind ALDI in Ballybofey. These manholes will allow for over pumping when the level of the Finn rises such that the outlets from the existing drainage can no longer operate successfully. As part of these works two number 5m x 5m x 0.25dp concrete hardstands for mobile pumps will be constructed. The works will involve excavation, concrete works, manhole construction, backfilling and associated works.

The works location is within the River Finn Special Area of Conservation (SAC). A Natura Impact Statement (NIS) has been prepared in respect of the proposed development and Donegal County Council propose to seek the approval of An Bord Pleanála to undertake the works.
