Apply for Planning Permission
To obtain planning permission you must apply to your local planning authority. You can submit a planning application either online or paper based.
Online Applications
The Online Planning portal, which can be accessed at https://planning.localgov.ie/, allows applicants, agents/developers to lodge applications electronically with 24/7 access to the portal.
You must register as a user.
The online portal is easy to use. You can register your own account, submit documents online with your application, and submit further information at a later stage, if requested.
You can view previously submitted applications on your dashboard, as well as the status of applications quickly and easily.
The new system offers improved efficiencies including:
- Online payment of fees by card
- Reduced Printing Costs
- Faster availability of information for the public who can also make a submission/observation on a planning application via the portal

Paper based Applications
You can also lodge a paper-based application to the local authority.
Paper-based applications may be lodged either by post or by hand, to Donegal County Council, Planning Services, County House, Lifford, Co. Donegal, F93 Y622.
If your application is incomplete, it will be returned to you as invalid.
