Housing Assistance Payment (HAP)
HAP is a form of assistance that is available to households who qualify for social housing support and are on the Housing Waiting List.
The main features of the HAP scheme are:
- applicants find their own private rented accommodation
- the Council pays an agreed amount directly to the landlord (see current rates below)
- the tenant pays a rent to the Council based on the weekly household income, as per the Council’s Differential Rent Scheme.
- the tenant also pays the landlord an amount to cover any shortfall between the Hap payment and the actual rent.
Full details and guidance are available at www.hap.ie.
You can apply for HAP online at Apply Online - Housing Assistance Payments (hap.ie)
