Find me a Home in Donegal
Donegal County Council is delighted to be launching a new free service to match individual vacant property owners who would like to sell their properties with people who may want to purchase a property in Donegal to make it their home. The Scheme is called “Find me a Home in Donegal”. Anyone who owns a vacant property in the County can join the Scheme. Likewise, anyone who is trying to find a home in Donegal can register their interest for a home in the County. If the Council sees a “match” we will put the vacant homeowner and potential buyer in touch with each other.
In launching the Scheme, Cllr. Niamh Kennedy, Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council has said “this is a fantastic initiative and the scheme provides a solution to vacant homeowners who may not have the time or finances to return the property to use. By selling the property, they are helping someone find a home in Donegal while playing their role to reduce the number of vacant and derelict houses in our County”.
Director of Services for Community Development and Planning Services, Liam Ward said “the Scheme very much compliments the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant Scheme which provides grants of up to €84,000 to refurbish vacant properties. The Council has currently the highest number of applicants nationally with over 900 applications processed, 66% of these finalised and 58 applicants have completed their works and received the grant to a total value of €3.1m.
If you own a vacant property and are interested in selling or you are seeking to buy a property to become your home, you can forward the property details and your contact details to Donegal County Council at vacanthomes@donegalcoco.ie and quote “Find me a Home in Donegal” in the subject line.
