03/12/19 Donegal Town win in 2019 IBP Pride of Place Awards

Pride of Place Donegal Town

Pictured at the Pride of Place Awards in Lyrath Estate last Saturday are Seamus Neely, Cheif Executive, Donegal County Council, Mary and Ernan Mc Gettigan, Donegal Town Community Chamber and Mairead Cranley Donegal County Council.

Donegal Town has been named the overall winner of the IBP Pride of Place Award for ‘Population Category: 2000 – 5000.

The aim of the competition is to highlight the hard work done by people in their local communities.

The award was presented to Ernan and Mary Mc Gettigan from Donegal Town Community Chamber at a ceremony in the Lyrath Estate in Kilkenny on Saturday night (30 Nov).

The judges thought the visit was was stimulating and enjoyable. There was a large turnout of local businesses demonstrating the cohesion of this hard-working community. They were immediately aware of activities and events which crucially were delivered, in the main, by volunteers. Civic pride and enthusiasm are difficult to generate, as they require “buy in” from the local community. That this has been achieved is not in doubt. An excellent entry from an extremely enthusiastic group.

Greencastle were runners up in the Islands and Coastal Communities Category.
