Two-way traffic is currently projected to be permanently reinstated on Pearse Road on the week following the Northern Ireland bank holiday but a specific date cannot be confirmed at this stage. Irish Water will continue to liaise with all stakeholders and further communications will be issued to confirm the date of the permanent reinstatement of two-way traffic.

Irish Water is investing almost €50 million in vital water and sewer upgrade works in Letterkenny which will reduce sewer flooding in the town and ensure a more consistent and secure supply of water to residents and businesses. The works are part of Irish Water’s commitment to safeguarding water and wastewater services for the people of Letterkenny. This investment will support economic and social development and population growth into the future.

Explaining the necessity of the sewer upgrade works Colm Claffey, Irish Water said: “Irish Water is committed to providing wastewater services that are in compliance with the EPA licence which will benefit residents and businesses in Letterkenny town.  Irish Water is currently undertaking works on the Pearse Road, Letterkenny which will stop sewer overflows from polluting the Swilly. These essential works are required under licence in order to bring the sewer network into compliance with the current EPA license and will protect the water quality in the river.”

Irish Water is mindful of the disruption that these necessary works are causing for businesses and residents and the utility is thankful for their ongoing cooperation while these vital services are being upgraded.

The works represent a €44 million investment in the Letterkenny Regional Water Supply Scheme and €5.6 million investment in the Letterkenny Sewerage Scheme. This investment will support economic and social development and population growth into the future.
