Seachtain na Gaeilge 2017 to be launched

Déanfaidh an Cathaoirleach Terence Slowey Seachtain na Gaeilge 2017 a lainseáil Dé Máirt, 28 Feabhra, i Leabharlann Phobail na Rosann sa Chlochán Liath.

Cathaoirleach Cllr. Terence Slowey will launch Seachtain na Gaeilge 2017 on Tuesday 28 February in the Leabharlann Phobail na Rosann in Dungloe.

Ag labhairt an tseachtain seo dó chreid an Clr. Slowey go ndéanfadh an fhéile, a mhairfeas ó 1 – 17 Márta 2017, arís an bhliain seo, ár dteanga agus ár gcultúr a shár-cheiliúradh ní amháin i nDún na nGall ach ar fud na tíre agus na cruinne.

Speaking this week Cllr. Slowey believes that this year’s festival, which will take place from 1 – 17 March 2017, will be another great celebration of our Irish language and culture not only in Donegal but throughout the country and throughout the world.

“Is cinnte go ndéanfaidh Seachtain na Gaeilge arís i mbliana ár dteanga dhúchais agus ár gcultúr a shárcheiliúradh agus tá pleananna faoi lánsheoil i nDún nan Gall chun lear mór imeachtaí agus gníomhartha a chur ar fáil a léireoidh go poiblí ní amháin saibhreas na Gaeilge ach a léireoidh freisin an tiomantas atá ann sna pobail éagsúla ar fud an chondae don Ghaeilge agus dár gcultúr”.

“Tá lúchair orm go bhfuil an Chomhairle chun tosaigh, uair amháin eile, a’ chur  Seachtain na Gaeilge chun cinn.  Le blianta beaga anuas crann taca í an tSeirbhís Leabharlainne ag tabhairt misniú agus spreagadh don fhéile agus tá mé ag tnúth go mór le clár na bliana seo a lainseáil Dé Máirt seo chugainn.”

“The year’s Seachtain na Gaeilge promises to be another great celebration of our native language and culture and plans are well underway in Donegal to host a wide range of events and activities that will not only showcase the richness of our native language but also the commitment of communities to our language and culture right across the county”.

“I am delighted that the Council are once again to the fore in promoting Seachtain na Gaeilge.  Our Library Service has been instrumental in building up momentum for this festival over the last number of years and I look forward to launching of this year’s programme on Tuesday next.”

Creideann Seán Ó Daimhin, an t-Oifigeach Forbartha Gaeilge sa Chomhairle gurb í príomhaidhm Seachtain na Gaeilge ná daoine a spreagadh chun Gaeilge a labhairt agus iad i mbun gnáthoibre an lae.

“Tugann Seachtain na Gaeilge deis iontach dúinn uile Gaeilge a labhairt níos minicí,  agus go laethúil, bímís lenár gclann sa bhaile, nó ag bualadh go sóisialta lenár gcairde nó lenár gcomhleacaithe san ionad oibre”.

Sean O’Daimhin, Irish Language Development Officer with the Council believes that Seachtain na Gaeilge is all about encouraging people to use Irish in their everyday life.

“Seachtain na Gaeilge provides us all with a great opportunity to use more gaeilge on a day to day basis whether it be at home with our family, out socialising with our friends or at work with our colleagues”.

“Is úsáideoir díograsach Facebook mé agus mar sin tá mé ag tnúth go mór le Lá na Meán Sóisialta nó Social Media Day,16 Márta, nuair a bheimis ár spreagadh féin dul i ngleic leis na meáin shóisialta as Gaeilge agus an haischlib #LNMS17 a úsáid.  Tá an Ghaeilge ar cheann den 100 teanga is mó a úsáidtear ar líne agus sé mo thuairim mar thoradh ar an fhás sna láithreáin shóisialta, Facebook, Snap Chat and Twitter san áireamh, go bhfuil níos mó deiseanna ar fáil ná ‘riamh  chun dul i dteagmháil lena chéile inár dteanga féin. Agus i gcás iad siúd nár measc atá rud beag faiteach i labhairt na teangan beidh seans ach ‘triail a bhaint as’”.

“As an avid Facebook user I am personally looking forward to Lá na Meán Síosialta or Social Media Day on 16 March when we are all being encouraged to use social media through Irish using the hashtag #LNMS17.  Irish is now in the top 100 languages used online and I think the growth of social media sites such as Facebook, Snap Chat and Twitter has opened up greater opportunities for us to converse in our own language.  And for those of us who are not that confident in using the language it allows us to just ‘give it a go’”.

Lainseálfar Seachtain na Gaeilge i Leabharlann Phobail na Rosann sa Chlochán Liath, Dé Máirt, 28 Feabhra ag 11am agus fáilteofar roimh chách.
