Séamus Ó Domhnaill a rinne an bronnadh ag ócáid speisialta a bhí ar siúl in Óstán an Mount Errigal, Letir Ceanainn ar an

24 Aibreán 2019. Bhí an ócáid seo lárnach i gclár imeachtaí na Féile Pan-Cheiltí 2019 – Féile ar siúl i Leitir Ceanainn ó 23 Aibreán go

28 Aibreán 2019.  I láthair fosta bhí Príomh-Fheidhmeannach na Comhairle, Seamus Neely, chomh maith le hoifigigh eile sa Chomhairle.   Agus bhí aoi speisialta i láthair fosta– Uachtárán na Féile Pan-Cheiltí, Bláthnaid Ó Brádaigh agus labhair sí go fonnmhar leis an dream óg i láthair ar an oíche.

Tá Comhairle Contae Dhún na nGall iontach buíoch do na Coláistí Samhraidh i nDún na nGall a thugann tacaíocht don scéim gach bliain, mar chuid de chomhpháirtíocht chomh-mhaoinithe idir an Chomhairle agus na Coláistí sa chontae. Is fiú tuairim is €25,000 san iomlán na scoláireachtaí seo, ag brath ar fhad na gcúrsaí a roghnaíonn na hiarratasóirí óga. Tá an Scéim Scoláireachta i bhfeidhm le breis agus fiche bliain anois agus tá níos mó ná 600 dalta i ndiaidh scoláireacht a fháil síos fríd na blianta.

Tá ról an-tábhachtach ag na Coláistí Samhraidh i saol eacnamaíochta an chontae, ó thaobh cruthú postanna, ioncaim, custaiméirí do shiopaí, agus úsáid níos mó as seirbhísí áitiúla.

Bíonn an chuid is mó de na cúrsaí ar siúl i mí Mheithimh, i mí Iúil agus tús mhí Lúnasa agus ba léir ón aiseolas atá faighte ag an Chomhairle go bhfuil na cúrsaí ag dul ó neart go neart.

PRESS RELEASE

Fáilte chun na Gaeltachta!

Over 30 eager and enthusiastic young pupils from all corners of Donegal received full Gaeltacht summer scholarships at the Presentation of Scholarships Ceremony that took place in the Mount Errigal Hotel on Wednesday evening, 24 April 2019, as part of the annual Donegal County Council Gaeltacht Scholarship Scheme. The Scholarships were presented by the Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Cllr Séamus Ó Domhnaill.  This event formed part of the Pan-Celtic festivities which is running in Letterkenny from 23 April to 28 April 2019.  Present at the awards ceremony too were the Chief Executive of Donegal County Council, Seamus Neely together with other staff members.  In attendance as a special guest, was the President of the Pan-Celtic Fesitival, Bláthnaid Ó Brádaigh who shared her love for and experience of the Irish language with those present.

Donegal County Council is very grateful to the Gaeltacht Colleges of Donegal that support the scheme in a partnership involving joint funding between the Council and the Colleges. The total value of the Scholarships each year can come an estimated €25,000 depending on the duration of the courses selected by the successful applicants. The Scholarship Scheme has been in place for over twenty years now, with more than 600 pupils throughout the county having received full scholarships down through the years.

The Summer Colleges play a huge role in the economic life of the Gaeltacht, bringing jobs, income, retail customers, and greater use of services. In return, the pupils get steeped in the rich native language of the Gaeltacht, and get a flavour of community and home life in the Gaeltacht. In addition to the courses and classes, many of the colleges offer a wide range of social events, activities, sports etc.

Most of the courses take place throughout the months of June, July and early August and feedback to the Council continues to be extremely positive.
