Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council Cllr Seamus O’Domhnaill has congratulated Tidy Towns committees across Donegal for their entries into this year’s SuperValu Tidy Towns Competitions.
The results of the 2018 SuperValu Tidy Towns Competition was announced on Monday with Buncrana and Letterkenny receiving gold medal awards in their categories and Carraig Art, Glenties and Malin achieving Bronze medal awards in their respective categories.
Letterkenny was the overall County winner with Buncrana being highly commended and Carraig Art being commended by the adjudicators.
Maghery in the Glenties MD received an Endeavour Award having increased their points in the competition by 11 and Buncrana won the Lets Get Buzzing - Local Authority Pollinator Award for their outstanding work in promoting biodiversity and increasing the population of bees in their area.
Raphoe’s Caitriona Crossan was highly commended as Community Hero.
“I am delighted to see these committees being recognised in the national SuperValu Tidy Towns competition. Through my work as a Councillor I see first hand the massive effort that is made by committees all around Donegal and to make it to the national stage is a wonderful testament for all involved” says Cllr. O’Domhnaill.
He added “Donegal County Council is fully committed to supporting the wonderful work done by volunteers across Donegal. The Councils Litter management team works continuously with communities to tackle litter and illegal dumping and we have been particularly successful in this area over the last number of years. We have thousands of community volunteers working with us to keep our towns and villages and indeed our rural areas clean and litter free and I think it is really important that the work of these unsung heros is acknowledged and recognised.”
