New €2 million investment scheme for built heritage announced
On the 30th January, 2017 The Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht affairs, Ms Heather Humphreys, TD, announced a new €2 million investment scheme. The Built Heritage Investment scheme (BHIS) seeks to encourage the leveraging of private capital to invest in a number of small-scale, labour-intensive projects to repair and conserve structures protected under the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended) and in certain cases, for the conservation of structures within Architectural Conservation Areas, and to support the employment of skilled and experienced conservation professionals, craft workers and tradespeople.
The scheme will once again be administered by the local authorities in 2017. Project supports will range from a minimum of €2,500 to a maximum of €10,000 per application.
A baseline amount of €50,000 per county will be allocated to each local authority with the remaining funding being distributed among the six cities according to their number of protected structures. Thus Donegal County Council has been allocated €50,000 under the scheme for 2017.
To be considered for grant aid, applications should be submitted to Donegal County Council before 4.30pm on Tuesday, 28th February 2017.
