Blue Flag Beaches & Green Coast

 

Donegal has been awarded thirteen Blue Flag Awards in 2017 including a new Blue Flag award for the Greencastle Marina in Inishowen as well as 5 Green Coast awards.

 

12 Blue Flags have been awarded to beaches at Bundoran, Rossnowlagh, Murvagh, Fintra, Narin (Portnoo), Carrickfinn, Killahoey (Dunfanaghy), Marblehill, Portsalon (Magherawarden), Shroove, Culdaff and Downings.

5 beaches at Ballyheirnan (Fanad), Drumnatinney (Falcarragh), Magheroarty, Port Arthur and Dooey each achieved the Green Coast award

The Council continues to make a significant investment in securing the retention of Blue Flags at these beaches. and this involves water sampling, beach maintenance, provision of signage, toilet facilities and car parking in some cases.

 

Wheelchair accessible beaches

 

13 beaches in Donegal are currently wheelchair accessible.

 

Donegal County Council has two beach wheelchairs available for use as follows:

 

 

Rathmullan Beach in association with Rathmullan Sailing & Watersports School (www.rathmullansailing.com).

To avoid disappointment, we recommend that you book in advance. Beach wheelchairs are free of charge however Terms & Conditions apply.

 

Lifeguards are employed on all Blue Flag Beaches and at Rathmullan beach over the bathing season.
