Visiting the Museum

 

Museum Tours

We can provide a guided tour of the Museum and its exhibitions. Tours should be booked at least two-weeks in advance by contacting the Museum (available for groups only).

 

Archaeology Box

Through our Archaeology Box, you will learn and find out about the Archaeology of County Donegal. The Archaeology box contains artefacts real and replica from the Stone Age to the Viking period. Children and adults are able to handle the artefacts and learn about the archaeology of County Donegal. For a facilitated workshop with the Archaeology Box please contact the Museum. This service is offered free of charge but prebooking is required.

 

‘Donegal  Museum Detectives’ Backpack

This fun and educational family backpack is available to borrow, free of charge on your visit to the County Museum. It contains a variety of activities which have been designed to engage children and families with our exhibitions. After completing the activites, you will have your Donegal Museum Detectives Passport stamped and there will be something for you to take home.  We also have a Museum postcard featuring old photographs from County Donegal,  that you can use to tell your friends and family about your visit to the Donegal County Museum. 

This project was funded by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.

Reminiscence Sessions

Donegal County Museum can visit your group, organisation or centre with items from our Museum Collection to assist with Reminiscence. This service is offered free of charge.

 

Travelling Exhibitions

Donegal County Museum has developed a number of Exhibitions, which are available for loan to school/ group/ organisation. The exhibitions consist of pop-up information stands on themes such as the ‘Flight of the Earls’, ‘The Plantation of Ulster’, ’The First World War’, ‘The Ulster Covenant 1912’ and ‘Connection and Division: Donegal 1910-1930’, etc.

Talks/workshops

We can deliver workshops and talks on the Museum and on a wide range of subjects to your group or organisation at an offsite location. This service is offered free of charge.  For more information and bookings, please contact the Donegal County Museum.

 

Pop Up Museum

The Museum can arrange to create a Pop-Up Museum in your venue. A Pop Up Museum is a museum, which exists for a few hours on one particular day and is created by the museum an the  public. The mission of the Pop-Up Museum is to create conversations between people of all ages and walks of life. People are invited to bring along an object relating to a particular theme and Museum staff will assist them to write a label to describe what the object means to them. The object is then put on display. At the end of the session, the object is returned. This service is offered free of charge.

The object is then put on display. At the end of the session, the object is returned. Themes can include “The Oldest Thing I Have’ and “My Culture”. This service is offered free of charge.
